Terms of Service

By creating an account on ALE or using the service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use ALE. If you are creating a kid account on behalf of a learner under 18, you must have the authority to do so and to accept these Terms on their behalf.

ALE (Adaptive Learning Engine) is an experimental research platform operated by Lindela Learning Ltd (Kenya). It provides free access to educational content and metered access to AI-powered adaptive learning features. ALE is offered as-is and evolves continuously — features may change, be added, or be removed as we learn.

• You need an account to access the content library and to use any AI feature.
• You are responsible for keeping your credentials confidential. Kids using a username + PIN account are responsible for keeping the PIN private.
• One person per account. You may not share your account credentials with other learners.
• Family plans permit up to four learners under one parent-administered account.
• Guardians of learners under 13 confirm the account by email within seven days. Unconfirmed accounts are soft-locked until confirmation.
• We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, that we reasonably believe are operated by bots, or that are used to bulk-extract content.

The entire ALE content library — lessons, worked examples, layered explanations available in library form, past-paper solutions, the Kamusi dictionary, and every static concept page — is free to read for signed-in learners. There is no paywall on content itself.

Every action that invokes a large language model, an adaptive engine turn, an on-demand diagnostic, or the tutor chat consumes AI credits. Credit costs are shown in-app before each action runs. Approximate costs:

• Adaptive diagnostic — roughly 20 credits per subject.
• Adaptive session turn — 1 credit per question served.
• Layered explanation generated on demand — 2 credits.
• Socratic tutor chat turn — 1 credit.
• Oral assessment session — approximately 3 credits per minute.
• ALE Assist (human tutor) — one Assist credit per 45-minute session; separate from AI credits.

Unused credits roll over month to month for as long as the account remains active. Top-up credit packs are available at published rates. Prices for both subscriptions and top-ups may change with 30 days’ notice; changes never apply retroactively to credits already purchased.

For any new paid subscription, if the mastery-map re-test at the end of your first paid month shows no movement on the learner’s mastery position, we refund that month’s subscription. Email refunds@lindela.io within 14 days of the end of the first paid month with your account details. AI credits consumed and ALE Assist tutor sessions delivered are non-refundable — those cost us real money we’ve already paid to the underlying providers.

Everything you create on ALE — notes, oral responses, chat transcripts, and your personal mastery record — belongs to you. You can export it any time in a standard format. See our Privacy Policyfor details on how it’s stored and handled.

The ALE content library — lessons, worked examples, layered explanations, question items, the knowledge graph, and all software — is the intellectual property of Lindela Learning Ltd, its licensors, and (where noted on the Attributions page) upstream open datasets. Signed-in learners may read and learn from it for their own use. You may NOT:

• Scrape, mass-download, or bulk-extract the content library or any subset of it.
• Use ALE content to train a machine-learning model, whether your own or a third party’s, or to fine-tune, distil, or otherwise create a derivative dataset.
• Redistribute, re-host, or resell any content from the library.
• Circumvent rate limits, use multiple accounts to expand quotas, or automate access without our written permission.
• Reverse-engineer the adaptive engine, the knowledge graph, or any part of the platform.

Attempted violations of this section may result in immediate account termination and civil action to recover damages. We monitor for scraping, credential-sharing, and bulk-extraction attempts.

You will not use ALE to:

• Cheat on an examination or assessment where such use is prohibited by the examining body.
• Impersonate another person, misrepresent your age, or provide false guardian details for a minor.
• Post content that is unlawful, defamatory, harassing, or contains malware.
• Attack, disrupt, or interfere with the service or the servers or networks it runs on.

AI-generated content — layered explanations, tutor-chat responses, oral-assessment feedback — is produced by large language models and can be wrong. ALE takes reasonable steps to ground AI outputs in the underlying knowledge graph, but you should verify any AI-generated statement of fact before relying on it, especially for high-stakes decisions (medical, legal, financial, or examination). AI feedback is a study aid, not authoritative truth.

ALE is provided as-is and as-available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that ALE will always be available, error-free, or that using it will produce any specific educational outcome for any specific learner.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Lindela Learning Ltd and its officers, employees, and contractors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or in connection with your use of ALE. Our total aggregate liability to you, for any and all claims arising out of these Terms, is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim and (b) KES 5,000.

You may cancel your account at any time from the app or by emailing support@lindela.io. Your mastery record remains exportable for 30 days after cancellation. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, effective immediately.

These Terms are governed by the laws of Kenya. Any dispute that is not resolved amicably will be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Nairobi, Kenya.

We update these Terms from time to time. Substantive changes are announced by email to all account holders at least 30 days before they take effect. Continuing to use ALE after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
